What's holding you back?

2 Thessalonians 3:11-13 - "We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat. And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right."

A couple of weeks ago, I found myself caught in a web of plans. However, those plans included no down time to just be still and spend some time in the Word with God. After speaking with a friend about finding ourselves always on the go, being aimlessly busy and now starting to feel the disconnect, it is no coincidence that this scripture happened to be where I was reading in my Bible the next morning. The apostle Paul is writing to specifically the church in Thessalonica, but also to all Christ followers. There are two types of people, according to him, in this scripture: people who are rightly busy and busybodies. Busybodies, being the idle type, are the ones who are always busy concerning themselves with other's affairs, but are never busy working - working hard to exemplify Christ. Sound familiar? (If you didn't pick up on my hint, I was being a busybody! Well, sort of.) We are called to make relationships and be industrious for the glory of our Father in Heaven! We may fall into the idleness of a busy schedule, but it is our duty and the duty of others to recognize that and be idle no more. With the strength of God, we will be busy for Him in no time! And remember, "Never tire of doing what is right!" Food for thought. :)

What now, God?

There are times in life when we may be hurting, lost, and wondering what now? Recently, something stopped me in my tracks, made me look up to the sky, and ask, "What now?"

When we cannot see our God, we may wonder if He is there at all. The times like this make us feel discouraged and can even leave us wanting to give up.  However, He promises He "...will never leave you nor forsake you" - Deuteronomy 31:6. Okay, so God says that He won't leave us, but what happens when we cannot see Him? Sure, we know He is there... but it would help if He gave us a little something more than a sentence on paper. There are times when we feel so alone, so lost. While I was in bed the other night, I just wondered where God was and if He was listening. How was I supposed to get Him to answer me or acknowledge me? How can we possibly know our God is there, walking beside us during the storms of life? He says, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart" - Jeremiah 29:13. God promises us that WE WILL find Him when we seek Him with all of our hearts! He doesn't say, 'You might find me,' or 'I may or may not be there, it depends on how I am feeling today.' How awesome is that?! He says, "Call to Me, and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things..." - Jeremiah 33:3. If you cry out to God, desperately seeking and searching for Him, He promises He will not withhold from you. I found this to be true because, as I lay in bed, crying to God and surrendering my fear, the peace of God came over me. He answered my prayer, and I knew my Father was with me.

If you are feeling confused, lost, or alone, remember, He "...will never leave you nor forsake you." - Deuteronomy 31:6. Cry out to Jesus!
